Learning to read music is not a rocket science. Every 5 year-old can do it and you can too. Kids learn fast because they do not afraid to make mistakes. Matter fact, they expected to make mistakes and they know it. They enjoy messing things up, they lough when they do things wrong, and they are never concerned about doing things perfect. Somehow they know there is no such thing, especially in music. As adults, we loose that incredible ability and become too self-critical, self-judgmental, and self-disapproving to enjoy our mistakes.
So, these classes will be super helpful for those who already enjoys to sing or plays an instrument by ear and made enough mistakes to know that they are part of the fun. Our instructor with 28 years of experience teaching exactly that will gently guide you toward basic knowledge on how to read sheet music and make a major step toward professional level. The skill to read music called "sight-reading", it is absolutely necessary in order to join a good chorus, good orchestra or a good band. It is essential for soloists as well, especially opera, and musical theater singers. If you audition for a professional company as a singer and competing against another candidate with similar voice and similar professional attributes, guess who will be chosen with no doubt... that's correct, the one who is a better "sight reader". Why? Because reading music takes you into the whole different category of musicians who are able to create their own unique interpretation of a music material instead of copying someone else's recording. That's the distinct difference between an amateur and a professional artist. Now, when we are clear on what these classes are for, let's talk about the method we use to teach our students to read music. You've probably heard a term Solfeggio before, but didn't quite understood the complexity and importance of this discipline. The Solfeggio course is a required in order to obtain a collage degree in music. Solfeggio class consists of several different elements: Basic Music Theory; Singing; Basics of Tonal Harmony. In Basic Music Theory section you will be learning name of notes, intervals and chords and basic rhythm patterns. In singing section you will learn to recreate melodies and intervals with your voice looking at your music. In a Basic of Tonal Harmony section you will learn to harmonize the melody and sing/play 2nd, 3rd, and 4th voice to the melody. Students of all ages and all musical backgrounds are welcome. You can choose a week day and a time that is most convenient for you. Class size is 4-6 students. All classes are conducted on Zoom, and all materials are provided via email.
